Rafael Benitez looks likely to stick with Newcastle ace Ayoze Perez

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has given a vote of confidence to attacker Ayoze Perez ahead of the away trip to Everton on Wednesday night.

The 25-year-old playmaker has not been in the best form so far this campaign, scoring just one goal in his 15 appearances across all competitions this season.

But he continues to be a mainstay in the side despite the fact he is below the levels that saw him score 10 last season.

Benitez has given praise to the Spaniard that seems to suggest Newcastle supporters can expect to see a lot more of him at St James’ Park.

“We know Ayo (Perez) really well and the fact we can talk in Spanish is easier for us to express what we want to,” Benitez said in his press conference, as cited by the Newcastle Chronicle.

“He is working so hard. He missed chances, but he is doing a great job for the team. He was our top scorer last season, & he is an important player for us.”

Perez is often a major victim for the Newcastle boo-boys, as he can often be extremely laboured in possession and fail to make a serious impact on games.

The Magpies attacker usually puts in a shift, but his technical ability can let him down.

He is capable of being a serious goalscoring threat when on form, but his form is far too inconsistent for most fans to deal with and it may say a lot about the club’s squad that there is nobody behind him pushing him for the starting position.
