Rafa Benitez makes thinly veiled Ashley dig in Everton comparison

Rafa Benitez has taken aim at Mike Ashley with Everton comparison.

Benitez’s time at Newcastle was incredibly difficult.

The Magpies loved their manager, but could quite clearly see that he just wasn’t being backed by Mike Ashley.

Now, though, over two years on from his contract expired at St. James’ Park, he’s had a dig at the Newcastle ownership.

Benitez has spoken about Farhad Moshiri’s willingness to spend at Goodison Park.

Quotes via The Mag, Benitez stated:

“We have an owner that wants to spend money.

“After my last experience in the Premier League, not spending any money, it is great to have owners with this spirit.

Now it is important that when the new transfer window arrives, we are ready.”

We know what we need.”

“We have to bring the balance between top class players and the players that want to be here.”

Benitez pulled no punches.

Openly talking about being given no support by Ashley is just confirming everything that the fans already knew.

The Newcastle supporters just want to see ambition at their club.

At Everton the Toffees may have got many of their big money signings wrong down the years, but at least the commitment to spend is there.

The next couple of seasons could be really interesting at Goodison Park.

Benitez’s wily tactical approach has already seen them win four of their six Premier League games.

That’s despite a very small summer spend owing to financial regulations.

When Rafa has had a chance to spend some money and really turn this side into one in his own image we’ll see his full potential.

Sadly, though, that’s something that the Geordies were never able to see in the Northeast.
