Newcastle United are reportedly monitoring AC Milan’s Fabio Borini.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Rafa Benitez is a fan of the Italian and wants to bring him to St. James’ Park next month.
Borini has had a disappointing season so far in 2018/19, making 11 appearances and scoring just one goal.
It is thought the Rossoneri would not stand in his way if he wanted to leave the club.
Borini has played for a number of clubs including Chelsea, Liverpool, Swansea City and Parma.
But most alarmingly for Newcastle supporters, of course, he’s also played for bitter rivals Sunderland.
Signing Borini would be a big risk by trustworthy Benitez
Although he would likely not cost a fortune, signing Borini would be a risky move by Benitez.
The fans trust him with what he’s doing at Newcastle; he’s done a brilliant job since becoming manager in January 2016.
But this potential transfer would certainly antagonise a few fans, even if Rafa does know best.
The fact of the matter is, Borini hasn’t pulled up trees for Milan since joining the club in 2017 (initially on loan).
If he couldn’t hit the ground running quickly, fans would definitely get on his back far quicker than a player having arrived without any links to rival clubs.
Fans have accepted DeAndre Yedlin and Jack Colback who both played for Sunderland in recent years, but perhaps Borini is one ex-Black Cat too many.
