Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move to bring Aaron Ramsey back to the Premier League after a difficult first season at Juventus – and Rafa Benitez has previously admitted he tried to sign Ramsey while at Liverpool.

TuttoJuve have claimed that Ramsey, 29, is a £22million target for Newcastle this summer. The prospective owners have been reportedly making waves in the upcoming window, as they look to create a shortlist ahead of an announcement.

The former Arsenal midfielder joined Juventus last summer from Arsenal on a free transfer and has since played 24 times for Juevntus, scoring four goals. But the Welsman’s form was inconsistent until the final couple of games, prior to the health crisis.

Now, Newcastle are keen on landing Ramsey – as well as Douglas Costa and Adrien Rabiot as per the report – and former Newcastle manager Benitez, who has been linked with a Tyneside return, admitted he tried to sign Ramsey.

“Everyone has players you are interested in but you cannot always land them, or another club is quicker than you,” Benitez said, as quoted by the Shields Gazette. “At Liverpool we had Ramsey, and he went to Arsenal.”

TBR’s view – Ramsey interest a sign prospective owners want Benitez?

Given that Benitez has openly admitted he wanted to sign Ramsey during his time as Liverpool manager, it is clear that the Spanish boss is an admirer of the former Cardiff City midfielder. So, is it a hint that Newcastle want Benitez to return?

Signing players that Benitez is fond of is likely to make a return to St. James’ Park much more attractive. Currently in charge of Dalian Yifang, a move for Ramsey could see Benitez swap the huge wages of China for a north east reunion.
