There’s no doubt that signing Radu Dragusin was a huge coup for Tottenham Hotspur this month given Bayern Munich’s interest.

Dragusin had two brilliant offers on the table, but chose to ignore the side that Harry Kane found irresistible.

Tottenham managed to secure one of their key targets this month, just days after Timo Werner had already walked through the door.

And with Ange Postecoglou’s side now enjoying a short winter break before their next game, any extra business can be seen as a bonus.

That being said, Radu Dragusin has now given an in depth explanation of why he chose Tottenham over a move to Bayern.

The defender was speaking to The Standard and explained the decision that must have puzzled quite a few fans in Bavaria.

Postecoglou played a vital role in the choice, a manager who can seemingly do no wrong right now.

Speaking to the Standard, Dragusin said: “Yes, that is right. I chose Tottenham because I felt it was the right step for me and I had a really good conversation with the coach.

“I saw that they wanted me from a long time ago, like one month before the transfer window, so I thought this is the right choice for me.

“I really believe in this team and that it is a good environment for me to continue my career and to progress in [Tottenham’s] incredible stadium and [with these] team-mates.

“The sky is the limit. We hope we will be as high as possible in the league and we can then see from there.

“My dream was to play in the Premier League, so that was part of it. I think the team here, the guys here, are on a good trajectory. I felt joining them can help me a lot.

“I like the way of the games in the Premier League, the physicality, intensity, speed and aggression… it is a lot of things I can prefer more.”

No looking back

Although Dragusin chose Tottenham over Bayern, that’s not to say things will be an easier for the player to earn a start.

It’s certainly going to be interesting to see how concerted Dragusin’s case is to displace the partnership of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero once he settles.

It seems very unlikely that he’d replace the former in the side, with Romero also now the club’s vice captain.

And whilst Dragusin will probably be patient in his pursuit, he also seems like an ambitious character.

That being said, it seems Spurs still have some ambitions of their own this month
