Quietly effective Gueye is as important to Everton's season as playmaker Gomes
Paris Saint Germain are keen on taking Idrissa Gueye from Everton in the January transfer window, as per French outlet L’Equipe.
The French champions are reportedly keen to bring one or two central midfielders to the club in January – with Adrien Rabiot’s future in serious doubt – and Gueye’s name is in the mix.
At 29, Gueye will know his next move is likely to be his last big one and PSG will certainly be able to offer more financially than Everton – as well as the chance to play in the Champions League.
Gueye is a very similar player to N’Golo Kante, and perhaps he is even good enough to draw similar acclaim if he translated his Everton form onto a bigger scale.
He is so important to what Everton are trying to do this season and while the prospect of securing Andre Gomes on a longer term basis may be a more exciting one for the club’s fans, tying down Gueye before that is an even bigger priority.
The 6-2 thumping at the hands of Tottenham underlined how reliant Everton are on the former Aston Villa man to aggressively win the ball back and Marco Silva completely reformatted his team against Burnley to account for his prolonged absence while remaining solid defensively.
Everton don’t have anybody else who can do what he does and while his midfield partner Gomes has added class to the Toffees’ engine room, Gueye is just as important.
