‘Question marks’…Stuart Pearce says 3 Arsenal players aren’t quite good enough for Mikel Arteta right now

Stuart Pearce has suggested there are three Arsenal players in the first-team right now who might not be good enough.

A lot has been made of Arsenal’s need to sign a new striker this January.

The Gunners are being linked with a move for Ivan Toney. Coincidentally, Pearce believes Arsenal need to be wary over that one too, given Toney’s age and time out of the game.

However, Pearce does believe Arsenal need another goal threat, and has suggested all three of Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Kai Havertz might not be up to standard.

Stuart Pearce has big doubts over three Arsenal players

Speaking to The Express, Pearce discussed Arsenal’s need for a new forward. And in doing so, he claimed that all three of Havertz, Jesus and Nketiah have big question marks over them.

“You look at some of the high-flying teams around the world, they might have four options up front. There are still slight questions marks about Nketiah and Jesus. Maybe even if [Kai] Havertz plays up top, there’s a question mark there. If an out-and-out goal scorer that guarantees 20-odd goals a season [becomes available], that would push Arsenal’s credentials even further,” Pearce said.

Two of those players were signed by Mikel Arteta, while Nketiah has not hit his best form this season either, despite winning a call to the England set-up.

Gunners need to look at what Man City did

We all saw how City went out and signed Erling Haaland to take them to another level and he effectively won them the treble.

Arsenal need to try and take a similar train of thought really. Yes, there might not be an Erling Haaland out there but there are top strikers who could do the business.

Toney would be a good signing for them and give them a focal point they’re perhaps missing at the moment. Beyond Toney, though, options might be more risky.

The likes of Dominic Solanke are being mentioned, while Santiago Gimenez is another who has been linked with the Gunners.
