‘Quality player’, ‘gonna be missed’: Some fans react as Rangers-linked 26-year-old Brit rejects new deal

Reported Glasgow Rangers target John Lundstram is set for pastures new – could he be joining Steven Gerrard and co at Ibrox next year?

According to the Glasgow Times, the Gers have been put on “high alert” after the 26-year-old turned down a new contract offer at Sheffield United.

Lundstram’s current deal expires next summer and talks have broken down over a new long-term deal, with the midfielder turning down several improved offers to extend his stay.

United boss Chris Wilder confirmed that his player “doesn’t want to sign” despite being offered a “very good contract” to try and keep him at the club.

“We have offered him a very good contract that is up there with the top players at the club and he has made the decision with his agent that he doesn’t want to sign, and I respect that,” Wilder told Sky Sports on Thursday.

“He is a Sheffield United player and still up for selection, but the three options are straightforward for me… he most likely wants to run his contract down, so we will ask for or invite offers for a very good player who did well for us in the Premier League last season.”

Lundstram has been with the Blades since his 2017 move from Oxford United for a reported £500,000 fee, and has made 94 competitive appearances for the Yorkshire club, registering eight goals and seven assists.

With the official confirmation from Wilder that the Brit has rejected a new deal and will potentially run his contract down, some Sheff Utd fans have given their thoughts on social media:
