Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo has been extremely positive when asked about Matt Doherty.
Spurs manager Nuno, who joined in the summer, will have recognised a familiar face upon arrival in north London.
Doherty, 29, is an Irish defender who enjoyed a successful spell together with the Portuguese boss at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The right-back completed a move from Wolves to Spurs last summer, but, unfortunately, it was a difficult first season for him.
He played just 29 games across all competitions during the last campaign, starting 13 in the Premier League.
However, the energetic full-back has a chance to start fresh for his second Spurs season. Surely the arrival of Nuno will give him a lift.
Nuno said, when asked what Doherty needs to do to reach his previous levels, as quoted by Football London: “What he’s doing every day. Commit himself, work hard, the quality is there. I know him, he knows us. Take the best of him and this is what we will try.”

Doherty form may depend on Nuno using wing-backs at Tottenham
Doherty enjoyed superb back-to-back Premier League seasons with Wolves operating as a right wing-back. Therefore, it didn’t surprise too many when he found it more challenging last year in a back four.
He’s definitely got the advantage on some of his teammates given his relationship with Nuno, so surely he’ll get a chance.
There should be no issue with confidence under the new manager, which is why he’s definitely a player fans should be excited to see.
