Queens Park Rangers sporting director Les Ferdinand has told Australian outlet The World Game that Massimo Luongo should leave Loftus Road, amid reported interest from Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.
London Football News claimed earlier this week that 26-year-old Luongo was interesting both Leeds and Forest, with just 12 months remaining on his contract at the Championship club.
Luongo is likely to have caught Leeds’ eye when he produced a marvellous assist for Luke Freeman’s goal in a 1-0 win over Marcelo Bielsa’s side back in February, which came as one of the most surprising results of 2018-19.
Ferdinand, who worked with Luongo during his Tottenham days, believes that the midfielder may have to leave the London-based club this summer in order to fulfil his potential and kick on.

“He’s relatively young and has the opportunity to push on,” Ferdinand said. “He has a year left with us but if he does go this (northern) summer he might be able to kick on a little bit more (elsewhere).
“All our players are up for sale. There has been a bit of interest for Mass. We are a club that if the right offer comes in for one of our players – especially with the Financial Fair Play situation – we have to look at everything.”
TBR’s view – £3.9m a Leeds bargain for Luongo
The World Game’s report claims QPR want just £3.9million for Luongo, and that is a bargain.
Ferdinand’s comments come as a big boost for Leeds. The Whites seem intent on landing the midfielder, and to know that the sporting director is keen for him to leave will only help the Yorkshire club.
Bringing in a player of Luongo’s technical ability will only provide Marcelo Bielsa with another tool in his arsenal when it comes to securing promotion at the second attempt. Leeds must take advantage.
