Pursuit of Cengiz Under surely confirms Mauricio Pochettino’s Marcus Edwards stance

This week has again seen Tottenham Hotspur linked with a move for Turkish international Cengiz Under. The 21-year-old has been in great form for AS Roma since joining the club from Basaksehir in 2017. Turkish source Aksam has recently suggested that Spurs are willing to pay around £52 million for the talented attacker.

A move makes sense considering his obvious talent and form.

However, it would surely suggest the end of Marcus Edwards’ chances of making it at Tottenham.

When he first burst onto the scene he was compared in style to Lionel Messi. Unfortunately, that tag has been more like a burden rather than a blessing.

Edwards struggled to make it into the Tottenham first-team again and a disastrous loan spell at Norwich City last season did not help matters.

This season he is with Dutch side Excelsior Rotterdam and while his form is picking up it does not currently look like a future in the Tottenham first-team is forthcoming.

Under’s arrival would end it. He and Edwards are carbon copy players. Both left-footed attackers who prefer coming in from the right flank and with similar styles.

Tottenham signing Under would no doubt spell the end for the talented 19-year-old’s chances in North London.
