Pundit urges Tottenham to sign Barcelona star Luis Suarez, backs deal as a ‘no-brainer’

Talksport pundit Micky Gray has suggested that Tottenham should move heaven and earth to sign Barcelona star Luis Suarez.

The former Liverpool ace looks to be part of Ronald Koeman’s brutal cull and that could see him leave the Nou Camp during the summer transfer window.

Suarez could have his contract terminated by the Catalan giants and that could make him one of the most sought-after free agents in recent times.

The 33-year-old is in the twilight of his career but still scored 21 goals and registered 12 assists during 2019/20.

Gray believes it’s a complete no-brainer for Jose Mourinho to go out and sign Suarez.

He told Talksport: “He actually works well with more experienced players, Jose, just look at his Inter Milan team.

“The only stumbling block for Suarez is his wages. What Daniel Levy has got to look at is that there is no transfer fee, and they can afford to pay his £400k-£500k-a-week wages.

“Luis Suarez has got the ego, got the background and the track record to go to Spurs and say: “You can play Harry Kane, but you’re playing me as well.”

One of Mourinho’s big problems last season was a lack of depth within his squad and he will look to put that right.

Spurs finished in sixth place in the Premier League and with the right additions they could challenge for the top-four during 2020/21.

Suarez is a proven goalscorer and during his time at Liverpool he proved a revelation, very nearly leading the Reds to their first Premier League title.

Quality

He fired 82 goals in 133 games for Liverpool and has smashed a further 198 in 283 games for Barcelona.

As Gray says the big stumbling block would be the player’s wage demands, with Suarez currently earning £404,000-a-week in Spain.

A deal could prove tricky, but it’d certainly help Tottenham in their quest to return to the Champions League if they could attract a player like Suarez.
