Pundit thinks Mikel Arteta could be about to do something which will really annoy Gabriel Jesus

Ahead of the January transfer window, one pundit is now very worried that Mikel Arteta made end up upsetting Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus.

Although Arsenal are expected to be relatively quiet in January, we ultimately don’t know if they have a surprise up their sleeve.

The club weren’t expected to do any business last year either, but ended up adding three strong signings, who are all still important today.

That being said, Andy Townsend and Ally McCoist have now been discussing the chances of Arsenal signing a striker in January.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the duo were worried that any Arsenal arrival would risk Arteta deeply upsetting Jesus, as we’ve seen with a recent example.

Townsend said: “He’s a very talented player but is he the one who absolutely comes in and makes the difference?

“I tell you what though, if he does go and buy a striker, one that can go in, he is not going to be happy Jesus, is he?”

McCoist replied: “No. I think you make a really valid point. Do you strengthen your squad going for the title, running the risk of upsetting people?”

Townsend: “Well, it didn’t bother him with the goalkeepers.”

Pundits think Mikel Arteta could upset Gabriel Jesus if Arsenal sign a striker in January

Of course, there is merit to these words.

Jesus was seemingly convinced to come to Arsenal in the first place from Manchester City because he would be the main man.

The Brazilian striker was often playing second-fiddle to Sergio Aguero at City, and clearly wanted the chance to be the star.

And although there’s now a common misconception over Jesus’ output for Arsenal since arriving, he has been brilliant.

Jesus’ injury lay-offs seem to have been wrongly-entwined with a lack of goal scoring since he’s arrived in North London.

Mikel Arteta will surely be very happy with Jesus’ performances for Arsenal, even if they are not always littered with goals.

Arsenal win games when Jesus is playing, that’s undeniable.

And it therefore does seem very unlikely that Arteta will risk rocking-the-boat in January, especially with Eddie Nketiah also delicately poised.

However, that doesn’t mean that they won’t be targeting one free-scoring £85m striker next summer.
