Ben Foster has told Aaron Ramsdale that he wants to see him leave Arsenal in the summer so he can secure a number one spot again.
Aaron Ramsdale has made just one Premier League appearance since early September. Mikel Arteta replaced the Englishman with David Raya.
Raya has taken a little while to get going at the Emirates. And there were plenty of times where Arteta’s decision to make the switch looked set to backfire. However, the Spaniard has arguably settled into the role without looking particularly spectacular.
Ben Foster urges Aaron Ramsdale to leave Arsenal this summer
Of course, at one stage, it did appear that it did not matter how poorly Raya performed as Ramsdale was seemingly not going back into the side.

The 25-year-old has been exceptional during his time at Arsenal. And with Euro 2024 just around the corner, it was no surprise that the goalkeeper was linked with a move away in January. Newcastle showed an interest in Ramsdale after Nick Pope sustained a serious injury.
However, as the deadline looms, it appears increasingly likely that Ramsdale will be staying put. And that may mean a frustrating few months lie ahead.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ben Foster insisted that he is hugely disappointed with how this season has played out for Ramsdale. And he believes that he needs to secure a move away in the summer.
“I’m gutted for him. I am. I’m absolutely gutted for him,” he said.
“At the end of the season, I think we’re going to see a move from Rambo anyway. But I just feel so bad for him. He’s a match goalie, Aaron is, and he wants to be there on a Saturday afternoon. That’s what he’s made for. All the other stuff around the sides doesn’t really affect him, doesn’t bother him. He just wants to be there doing his job on a Saturday afternoon. And he deserves to be doing it, he deserves to be playing in the Premier League.
“I love David Raya. I think he’s a very good goalkeeper as well. It’s just a shame that they both happen to be at the same football club. It’s a shame for Rambo. I don’t think he’s going to get a move. But end of the season, I want to see you getting out and playing first-team football again.”
Gunners will know that Englishman won’t be happy to stay as number two
Arsenal surely cannot expect Ramsdale to be content with his backup role beyond this season. He is approaching what should be the best years of his career. So he will not watch that spell pass him by.
Obviously, the £30 million star will be devastated to leave Arsenal if it comes to it. But as things stand, it appears that Raya is Arteta’s undisputed number one.
And there are surely going to be a number of takers for Ramsdale in the summer.
