Janusz Michallik has suggested that Chelsea may have made an error deciding to sell Jorginho to Arsenal during the 2023 January transfer window.
It must be said that many of us felt that the Blues were getting the better end of the deal when Mikel Arteta and Edu came calling for Jorginho right at the end of the window.
Arsenal were going for the Premier League title at the time. So it seemed like an underwhelming decision considering that Jorginho had been poor at Stamford Bridge in the months before his move.
Chelsea told they should’ve kept Jorginho
However, that decision is now looking like a masterstroke from Arteta and Arsenal. The Italian has rarely let the Gunners down whenever he has played. And Jorginho was exceptional at the weekend as Arsenal secured a massive win in the title race.

Chelsea meanwhile, continue to move backwards under Mauricio Pochettino. And speaking on ESPN, Janusz Michallik has suggested that the Blues would have been better off holding onto the 32-year-old.
“I look at that midfield and I look at Jorginho, look at Jorginho. Even a game or two, again hindsight, but do we not think that maybe you should’ve kept him? Just like Arsenal, he doesn’t play a lot. But when he does, we saw what he did against Liverpool. Just that experience or being on the pitch, or being in the dressing room,” he said.
Arsenal vindicated for transfer gamble
In fairness to Chelsea, Jorginho was another player who did not appear to be in any sort of form before his departure. So plenty must have thought that it was a no-brainer to move him on when Arsenal did make their move.
Arteta however, appears to have found a really good role for the former Napoli man. He does not start very often. But when he does, there is usually a very clear reason. And, as Sunday proved, Arteta is often vindicated for using him.
He also appears to be a crucial member of the squad. And Chelsea would certainly not complain with having one or two more leaders in their ranks right now.
