Pundit says West Ham are about to make a ‘bargain’ signing, ‘he has huge potential’

West Ham United haven’t overly impressed their fans with the business they have done, but they are getting deals over the line.

Graham Potter cannot have as bad a season as he did last time out. He needs to push the Irons higher up the table, and he will need all the help he can get.

West Ham have signed El Hadji Malick Diouf, Kyle Walker-Peters and Callum Wilson so far, while Jean-Clair Todibo’s loan move has been made permanent as well.

Up next is a new goalkeeper, and it looks like Leicester City star Mads Hermansen will be the one.

West Ham told Mads Hermansen is an upgrade on Alphonse Areola

West Ham have had an interest in Hermansen since the start of the transfer window.

The Dane was always expected to leave Leicester after their relegation last season, and there has been a lot of speculation around his future.

The Irons looked to have given up on the Foxes’ star and moved forward to sign John Victor from Brazil, but Leicester then softened their stance.

TBR Football revealed that Leicester brought West Ham back to the negotiating table for Hermansen by lowering their £25 million asking price.

Now, the goalkeeper is on the verge of completing his move to the London Stadium for £18 million, and Peter Kjær believes that’s a bargain.

The former Denmark international said, as per TipsBladet: “If he goes in and becomes the first-choice goalkeeper, and he has a long and fine career at West Ham, then it’s a bargain, but if he becomes the second-choice goalkeeper and plays in the small competitions, then it’s not a bargain. Then he’s a squad player.

“I don’t think that will be a theme here at all. If I were to put my savings on it, we’re dealing with something that could well be a bargain. He has huge potential; he’s still only 25 years old.”

Kjær further added: “It’s the manager who buys him. He didn’t buy Areola, so in some way it’s always nice that the manager who has you is also the one who buys you.

“So, in that way, I can also see that if he reaches the level he did in the first half at Leicester, I will also consider him to be a better goalkeeper than Alphonse Areola.”

West Ham are pushing to complete another signing along with Mads Hermansen

Hermansen is not the only player West Ham are pushing to sign; there is another.

The Hammers have been pursuing a deal to sign 18-year-old Idrissa Gueye from French side Metz, and they seem to be making progress.

Senegalese website WiwSport have claimed that West Ham have agreed personal terms in principle with the young striker, and a move was said to be ‘imminent’.

It remains to be seen if Potter’s men can get this deal done right after Hermansen puts pen to paper on his West Ham contract.
