For the longest time, Tottenham were seen as something of a one-man team.
As Pep Guardiola so eloquently put it once upon a time, Spurs were, for quite a while, seen as the Harry Kane team.
However, after Kane’s departure, Spurs are a much more well-rounded squad, but they do still have those key players they rely on more than others.
Indeed, it doesn’t take a football genius to tell you that Heung-Min Son and James Maddison are two of Spurs’ most important players.
However, speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Scott Minto has claimed that there’s a third Spurs player who fits into that bracket – Micky Van de Ven.

Micky Van de Ven is so important for Tottenham
Minto shared his verdict on the £35m man.
“In the summer they need to recruit a couple more quick centre-halves, He’s almost as important as a Son or as a Maddison if Spurs are to be successful. It’s all well and good being exciting going forwards, but you can’t concede one or two a game, and they concede a lot of chances Spurs, you have to say,” Minto said.
So crucial
Van de Ven is so crucial to Tottenham, not necessarily because of his ability, but because of the way he plays.
The defender is the key component in Spurs’ defence in that his speed allows Tottenham to play with that incredibly risky high line with ease.
His speed in terms of recovery runs is so crucial to Ange Postecoglou’s style of play, and when he’s not in the team, Spurs just don’t click in the same way.
Van de Ven has proven to be a fantastic summer signing at just £35m, and at the age of just 22, he still has plenty of room to grow and improve to ultimately reach his huge potential.
