Pundit says Postecoglou did something foolish in the 62nd minute of Tottenham win today

Ange Postecoglou has been accused of making a mistake in today’s Premier League clash between Tottenham and Brighton.

It was Paul Merson who made the accusation when speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.

So, what was said about Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham? Let’s take a look…

What Merson said about Postecoglou

Well, the 55-year-old believes the Australian’s substitutions in the 62nd minute disturbed Tottenham’s rhythm.

Postecoglou introduced Yves Bissouma, Brennan Johnson and Heung-min Son just after Pape Matar Sarr scored in the 61st minute to make it 1-1.

Some may have presumed that Spurs would then take control and push for all three points, although it was Brighton who performed better after the triple substitution.

Speaking about Postecoglou’s bold decision, Merson said: “It’s been all Brighton since those subs. He (Postecoglou) was going for it but it looks like a bit of a mistake.”

Eventually, it was the 58-year-old who had the last laugh, as two of his substitutes combined to put Tottenham 2-1 ahead in the 95th minute.

A brilliant cross from Son allowed Johnson to smash the ball into the roof of the net with just seconds to go, and ensured Spurs returned to winning ways after a 2-2 draw against Everton last week.

It was certainly bold of Postecoglou to make three changes immediately after Sarr scored an equaliser, and – like Merson said – it did appear to stunt Tottenham’s rhythm a bit.

Had Brighton ended up snatching the win in north London earlier today, we believe more pundits would have taken aim at the Tottenham boss for his triple substitution.

Nevertheless, the man from Nea Filadelfeia’s brave move paid off, and he can give himself a huge pat on the back for a courageous switch which eventually secured all three points.
