Kai Havertz is slowly but surely winning fans over at Arsenal.

The German had a shoddy start to life in north London to say the least, but now, he’s hitting his stride a bit.

Havertz was fantastic against Newcastle at the weekend, not only did he score a good goal, he also played a vital role in all of Arsenal’s attacking play.

Speaking on the Handbrake Off Podcast, Adrian Clarke has been discussing Havertz and his role in Arsenal’s attack, and he says that people don’t quite realise just how clever of a footballer Havertz actually is.

Kai Havertz is very clever

Clarke spoke about the German.

“Yeah he’s a strong boy, he’s brainy, he’s a brainy footballer, people don’t realise that, he’s always been a clever footballer. As soon as that ball goes over his head he spins and does a C-shaped run into the box and Martinelli picks him out,” Clarke said.

Can be clever

Kai Havertz has improved a lot in recent times at Arsenal, but to make out like he’s always been a brainy player in this Arsenal team is to ignore his first few months at the club.

In that first few weeks at Arsenal, Havertz was anything but clever, he was often getting in his teammates’ way, he didn’t know where to be, and he looked lost on the pitch.

In all honesty, Havertz often looks that way when he has to play a deeper midfield role, but, against both Newcastle and Liverpool he looked better further forward.

However, Havertz’s future surely isn’t as the spearhead of this attack as Arsenal will likely look to buy a striker this summer, so, in a way, we’re back to square one in terms of where Havertz actually fits into this team.

There’s talent there to be tapped into, but getting the best out of Havertz consistently isn’t easy.
