Janusz Michallik has suggested that Bruno Guimaraes has to be considered on the same level as Rodri after the Newcastle United midfielder’s performance in their win over Fulham on Saturday.
Bruno Guimaraes did not score in the 3-0 victory, but he was arguably the star of the show for Eddie Howe’s side.
Bruno set up Lewis Miley for the first professional goal of his career, with the Brazilian doing brilliantly around the edge of the Fulham box to provide the assist for the 17-year-old.
Pundit believes Bruno Guimaraes is now on same level as Rodri
And really, he should have been credited with the assist for Newcastle’s third goal. His outrageous cross with the outside of his right boot found Dan Burn at the back post. Eventually, the defender was able to turn the ball in after an initial save from Bernd Leno.

Of course, all central midfielders in the Premier League are likely to look at Rodri as the benchmark. It is clear to everyone how important the £63 million man is to Manchester City, particularly when he is not in the side.
But ESPN pundit Michallik believes that Bruno can now be put alongside Rodri.
“I want to talk about Bruno Guimaraes, because everybody that knows me knows that I love Rodri. What he’s doing is absolutely incredible. If you look at his statistics, obviously first goal, he was the driving force on that one. To Dan Burn, the assist with the outside of the foot. I don’t know, I think he’s at the level of Rodri, we have to consider him because he’s been absolutely incredible,” he said.
Game-changing signing for Newcastle
It was a massive win for Newcastle. It did appear that they would need someone of Bruno’s quality to almost drag them out of their current rut.
The 26-year-old is arguably at the peak of his powers right now. And it is going to be huge for Newcastle to keep him over the coming years.
Newcastle included a release clause of around £105 million in Bruno’s contract. And on current evidence, there may be one or two sides who have serious discussions about paying that sort of amount.
He has been a game-changing signing for the Magpies. And if he does leave, he is certainly going to leave the Newcastle side in a better place than which he found it.
