Newcastle United have had a dreadful summer transfer window.
The Magpies were over the moon after they qualified for the Champions League at the end of last season, but they have failed to attract their big targets since.
The likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Joao Pedro and Hugo Ekitike have shown no interest in moving to St James’ Park this summer.
Now, TBR can confirm that Benjamin Sesko has snubbed a move to Newcastle and is about to join Manchester United instead in the coming days.
Newcastle fans must be hating this, and things could get worse.
Gabriel Agbonlahor says Liverpool could beat Newcastle United in Marc Guehi race
Marc Guehi has been a target for Newcastle United for over a year now.
The Toon tried very hard to land the England international defender last year, but they just couldn’t reach an agreement with Crystal Palace.
Eddie Howe’s side retain an interest in Guehi and could make another move, but Premier League champions Liverpool also have him on their wish list.
Reports have claimed that Guehi would prefer Liverpool over Newcastle if he had the choice in this window. Gabriel Agbonlahor is of the same opinion as well.
After hearing about Sesko preferring Manchester United over the Magpies, the pundit said on talkSPORT: “It seems any time Newcastle go in for a player, someone else is going to snap them up.
“Even Guehi, don’t be surprised if Liverpool come and snap him up and are speaking to Guehi as well, because Konate, there is talk that Real Madrid are sniffing around him, like how they did with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
“So, Liverpool need another centre-half for sure before the window closes.
“Frustrating for Newcastle. I think Newcastle, if they tried to sign me, maybe they would miss out on me, and another club would get me. So, it’s not looking good for Eddie Howe at the moment.”
Newcastle could ruin Liverpool’s dream too
Liverpool have caused a lot of problems for Newcastle this summer.
The Reds first unsettled Alexander Isak with their interest, before hijacking the Magpies’ move to sign Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Next, they could lure Guehi away from them, which would not be a great feeling at all for Toon fans after everything that has happened in this window.
However, Newcastle could still have the last laugh – sort of.
Liverpool’s dream signing this summer is Isak, and after Sesko snubbed Newcastle, Howe doesn’t have a replacement for the Swede.
So, the Magpies could now block Isak’s exit route, which would leave Arne Slot’s side without their top target in this window.
