Chelsea are really struggling this season.
The Blues have been up and down all season long, and while their transfer strategy of signing promising young players may pay dividends in years to come, things aren’t looking too clever at the moment.
Chelsea have taken on a recruitment policy of signing young players, and that means that some quality footballers have slipped through the cracks over the past 12 months.
Chelsea apparently passed up on the idea of signing James Maddison this summer due to the fact he was too old.
Speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Scott Minto has been discussing Chelsea’s transfer policy and he says that he hates the fact the Blues didn’t go for Maddison this summer.

Chelsea need someone like Maddison
Minto spoke about the £40m man.
“I hate the fact that Chelsea have gone under 25. If they’re over 25 they won’t touch them. They missed out on James Maddison and they’ll probably miss out on Ivan Toney, and those are two players they’re crying out for here and now,” Minto said.
Bizarre
We can understand why you would want to sign younger players, but if you’re passing up on a 26-year-old who is extremely talented for just £40m then you’ve lost sight of what this game is about.
Yes, resale value and potential is hugely important, but Maddison is a top-class player who could’ve brought so much to this Chelsea team in the here and now.
The Blues are a team that always need constant success, and while they may have a plan of how to win in five years’ time, they also need to have a focus on getting back to the top this season or next season too.
Chelsea’s current policy is bizarre, and the fact they actively chose not to sign Maddison this summer is baffling.
