Pundit says Declan Rice can do something few midfielders are capable of after Arsenal win

Robbie Earle has suggested that one Arsenal player is a colossus and actually so much quicker than many of those who also play in his position.

Arsenal got back to winning ways on Saturday as they navigated through a tricky away trip to Wolves. Goals from Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard saw the Gunners secure the three points.

It was imperative that Arsenal got the win which has sent them back to the top of the Premier League table.

It was arguably not a vintage performance from Mikel Arteta’s side. However, there was one huge display from someone who probably had a point to prove.

Arsenal star produces colossal display against Wolves

Declan Rice had looked tired against the likes of Aston Villa and Bayern Munich. But he was arguably back to his best against Gary O’Neil’s side.

As shown by Whoscored, he completed five key passes and won four tackles. In both areas, no-one could match the midfielder’s tallies.

And speaking on The 2 Robbies, Robbie Earle claimed that he was almost a little surprised by what he saw from Rice at Molineux, particularly when it came to how fast he was.

“Declan Rice is a colossus. Declan Rice has got to be in the running for player of the season. Now whether he wins or not will be up for debate,” he said.

“You know what, as I was watching the game, I wrote a couple of things about him. He’s quick as in he’s pacy quick. He can run past people that most midfielders of his ilk, I wouldn’t say Rodri who’s the shining example of the best, I don’t think Rodri runs past many people like Declan Rice. But he’s also got this endurance thing where he can go from one box to the other. He had a run late on to the corner, he ran half the length of the field with the ball.

“He’s got technical ability and he’s got really quick, clean feet. He’s like this mix of all the things you’d want in a midfield player.

“And then, the biggest thing he’s got is a heart and a drive that’s saying he isn’t going to let things happen like they did last year.

“Difference-maker for the team, along with Trossard.”

Declan Rice evoked memories of one of last term’s performances of the season from Gunners teammate

When Arsenal desperately needed a win in last year’s title race, Martin Odegaard produced an unbelievable performance away at Newcastle.

Odegaard stepped up on that day, ensuring that Mikel Arteta’s men had some hope as they looked to keep pace with the Manchester City machine.

Once again, Arsenal have seen the title race taken out of their hands. But Rice stepped up with an amazing display in the win at Wolves.

Arsenal have kept themselves in the mix. And they could now go four points clear before Manchester City play again this week.

Perhaps it was not quite on the same level as Odegaard at Newcastle, but Rice’s performance at Wolves deserves all the plaudits currently coming its way.
