Cole Palmer was the main man for Chelsea once again today as he helped them to a big win over fellow European contenders, Newcastle United.

The Blues were good for the win as they managed to put in another good home performance to see off Eddie Howe’s Magpies.

A goal from Nicolas Jackson had got things underway for Chelsea before Alexander Isak equalised to bring a nervousness around Stamford Bridge.

However, man of the moment Cole Palmer got a second just after half-time as he continued his superb form and once again showed he is the main man at the Bridge.

Of course, Palmer’s game is more than just goals. And while he didn’t get the actual assist for the opener, the part he played in the goal seriously impressed one onlooking pundit.

Cole Palmer praised for ‘incredible’ moment during Chelsea v Newcastle

Speaking on Premier League Productions while watching the Chelsea game, former Everton midfielder Don Hutchison lauded the goal from the Blues, and in particular, the ‘pre-assist’ from Palmer.

“What a pass that is from Cole Palmer – it’s incredible. It’s not just all about the assist, it’s the ball before the assist from Palmer that made that goal. Nicolas Jackson is bang in form for Chelsea, I’m glad to see him doing well,” Hutchison said.

Palmer continues to defy the odds

Every week it feels like we are waiting for Cole Palmer to drop off in his level but every week, he seems to keep proving people wrong.

Palmer is right up there at the moment as one of the very best attacking midfielders in the world and to be continually doing it week in, week out, is quite something.

Gianfranco Zola recently spoke of his surprise at how good Palmer has been and at the moment, he just doesn’t look like slowing down.

Chelsea, then, are right in the mix for the top four this season and a lot of it is down to Palmer continuing to excel under Enzo Maresca.
