Pundit says £25m Arsenal player should be desperate to join Chelsea in January

Aaron Ramsdale is not having the best of times at Arsenal.

The goalkeeper has been dropped in favour of David Raya as of late, and while he’ll get a game this weekend against Brentford, he’s found minutes hard to come by as of late.

As you can imagine, Ramsdale’s lack of minutes has led to plenty of speculation around his future, and speaking on TalkSPORT (22/11/23 8:55AM), Gabriel Agbonlahor has given his verdict on this situation.

Agbonlahor says that if he were in Ramsdale’s shoes, he’d absolutely be leaving in January, claiming that he’d be pushing for a move to Chelsea at this point.

Ramsdale should push to join Chelsea

Agbonlahor gave his verdict on the £25m man.

“If I’m him, I’m leaving 100%. Arteta tried to make out like he’s got two number ones and he can make subs with keepers. Let’s be honest, since he’s said that, it’s been Raya non-stop,’ Agbonlahor said.

“Raya’s his number one, there’s something about Ramsdale he’s not sure of. If I’m Ramsdale, he could miss out on the Euros with England if you’re not playing for another six months.

“You’re 25 years old, Chelsea need a goalkepeer, Sanchez isn’t good enough for Chelsea.”

“I think if you look at Chelsea, Chelsea’s goalkepeer is not good enough for what Chelsea have got in that squad, they need a better goalkeeper. Ramsdale walks into that Chelsea team and I think he does well for them.

“If I’m Ramsdale, definitely in January, I’m pushing that through, but will Arteta block it and say no, I want a top number two? That’s the problem.”

Not that easy

Agbonlahor says that Ramsdale should be pushing to join Chelsea, but it’s never that easy in football.

Robert Sanchez is doing ok for Chelsea and only signed in the summer, while the Blues also have a number of talented young goalkeepers on their books as well as Kepa Arrizabalaga out on loan.

The reality is that it may be hard for Ramsdale to find a new club in the same way David De Gea and Hugo Lloris have struggled as of late, and that is a real shame for a player as talented as Ramsdale.
