Pundit says 25-year-old Spurs player must be a nightmare to face

Playing against Cristian Romero mustn’t be an enjoyable experience for a striker.

Not only is the Argentine a fantastic defender on his day, he’s also one of the most aggressive centre-backs in the game these days.

The World Cup winner won’t let you escape a game against him without at least a few bruises, and speaking to Off The Ball, Pat Nevin has named Romero as a player he’d truly hate to play against these days.

Romero is a take-no-prisoners centre-half who will take the ball just as often as he’d take out his man, and Nevin reckons he’d be an absolute nightmare to play against.

Romero a nightmare to face

The pundit gave his verdict on the defender.

“If they get the backup back that’s what they haven’t got. He’s a really good defender and I’d hate to play against him because you know that if he can hit you and hurt you he will do both. There’s something to that and managers won’t say it out loud, but they kind of like having that on their side. It’s four sendings off so far in his Spurs career, it should be five, and to do it at that time. Everyone has played against someone like that, and I don’t know what Ange does, but if anyone is capable of doing something about it, Postecoglou can,” Nevin said.

Impossible

Romero isn’t impossible to beat, and while you may get some joy against him at the back, it’s impossible to ever truly enjoy playing against him.

Yes, you may score a few goals, but you’ll wake up sore in the morning regretting your life choices up until this point.

Even the best strikers in the league must hate playing against Romero because he will not back down against any opponent.

You may win the battle against Romero, but you’ll never win the war.
