Josko Gvardiol showed just why the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea want to sign him with a brilliant display for Croatia against Brazil this evening.
Gvardiol is one of Europe’s most in demand central defenders. The Croatian is attracting a host of interest in England and abroad. In the Premier League, both Tottenham and Chelsea have been linked with the young defender, who is enjoying a fine World Cup.
90Min have suggested a deal in the region of £45m might be enough to land Gvardiol. There are other reports out there though that put his value at much higher than that ahead of January.

Based on tonight’s performance v Brazil, that value is only going to increase. And watching on for the BBC, Pat Nevin commented on just how good Gvardiol had been, likening him to a Rolls-Royce.
“Josko Gvardiol is a joy. It’s like watching a Rolls-Royce. That guy is brilliant,” Nevin said on BBC comms
Certainly, those Tottenham and Chelsea fans watching on will have been impressed with Gvardiol. He had pretty much everything tonight, and produced a decisive header while on the floor in extra-time too.
TBR’s View: Whoever gets Gvardiol is getting a monster of a player
There is no question that Josko Gvardiol is living up to the hype in this World Cup. Among a number of players going into the tournament with big reputations, the Croatian has shown his class.
For Tottenham and Chelsea, there simply has to be a scrap between them to land him. He has been outstanding and Nevin’s comparison to a Rolls-Royce against Brazil is spot on.
Whoever does end up spending big money on Gvardiol is getting a fine player. And worryingly for other clubs in Europe, his age means he’s only going to get far better. Tonight felt like a defining moment for him.
