Gabriel Jesus is a fantastic footballer, but he’s coming under a lot of fire for Arsenal right now.
In a nutshell, the Brazilian isn’t scoring enough goals. He’s running hard, he’s linking play, but the key currency for any striker is goals.
The Arsenal man has scored just three times in half a season, and when you’re playing for a team that is meant to be challenging for a Premier League title, that isn’t good enough.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Leon Osman has been trying to decode some of the issues in Jesus’ game right now, and he noted that the striker’s body language in the box isn’t quite right.
Indeed, Osman says that Jesus is never looking interested in gambling on rebounds, and for a number nine, that really isn’t ideal.

Jesus isn’t interested in rebounds
Osman shared his verdict on the striker.
“They think of any opportunity that a goalkeeper might make a save and there’s an opportunity but Arsenal aren’t sniffing those opportunities out, look at the body language of Jesus, he’s not interested with rebounds, and Arsenal aren’t expecting that kind of thing,” Osman said.
Has to change
Gabriel Jesus really needs to change his approach here, because what he’s doing right now isn’t working.
Now, we’re not asking him to be a pure poacher, but he needs to get better at anticipating chances in the right areas.
When it comes to reading the game from deep, there aren’t many players better than Jesus, he can paint a picture in his mind of how the game will look unlike any other striker, but when it comes to the 18-yard-box, he seems to have a bit of a mental block.
Ultimately, Jesus will only ever be judged on his goals, and he needs to start coming alive to these opportunities that may present themselves in terms of rebounds and chances close to goal.
