Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been praised by Optus Sport pundit John Aloisi for his efforts in last night’s Champions League victory.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds took on Ajax in their Champions League Group D encounter in Amsterdam and picked up a much-needed 1-0 win.
After a fairly even first half, Liverpool took the lead on 35 minutes when Nicolas Tagliafico nocked the ball into his own net while trying to clear a Sadio Mane shot.
The Reds laboured in the second half but managed to keep Ajax at bay and held on for their first win in four matches.
Henderson came on at half time, replacing Anfield academy graduate Curtis Jones, and brought solidity to the Liverpool midfield, helping the team lock the game down.
“They were unlucky Ajax. They had a good night and made it really hard the way they set up and played through Liverpool quite easily at times.
“But it’s a sign of a good side when you can win without playing at your best and that’s what Liverpool did tonight.”
It’s not been a particularly good season for Liverpool thus far, with a couple of bad results already as well as a huge injury blow for Virgil van Dijk.
However, their victory over Ajax was a big confidence boost, and Henderson, solid and reliable as ever, is likely to once again have a big say in his side’s pursuit of silverware this season.
