‘Look at his career’: TalkSPORT pundit says Liverpool fans shouldn’t be surprised by Darwin Nunez

Darwin Nunez fired another blank this weekend in the Premier League and TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook believes nobody should be surprised.

Nunez has done ok since arriving in Liverpool but has failed to consistently hit the net. He did score the winner v West Ham a week back, and notched in Europe against Rangers and Ajax. However, overall, the Premier League has seen him struggle.

Liverpool shelled out huge money on signing Nunez in the summer in response to City landing Erling Haaland.

However, speaking on TalkSPORT just now, Alex Crook has said that Liverpool needn’t be surprised by Nunez taking time to settle, given his lack of experience.

“It isn’t a surprise that Darwin Nunez is taking his time to find his feet in the Premier League. You look at his career, it wasn’t that long ago he was playing in the Spanish second division. He was very close to joining Brighton for around £25m,” Crooks said tonight on TalKSPORT.

“All of a sudden he did so well, one season in Portugal which isn’t the strongest league. And that’s enough to convince Liverpool to pay massive money to replace Sadio Mane, someone who has been there and got the t-shirt. It was a massive step up.”

TBR’s View: Darwin Nunez will produce form eventually for Liverpool

While the goals haven’t quite flown in like some predicted, Nunez is playing in a Liverpool team that is miles off being at its best overall. And with that, comes less chances.

The big thing Nunez is showing though is a desire to work. He is sprinting everywhere during games and showing Jurgen Klopp he is right up for the fight.

Crook’s comments on Nunez are valid. But this is a player who will come good down the line and Liverpool fans might just need to be a tad patient.
