Arsenal are said to hold an interest in Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling, and according to Tony Cascarino, the England man has been the best player this season in the Premier League.

The Gunners are thought to like Sterling, and the Daily Star reported at the end of January how Edu and Mikel Arteta are keeping close tabs on the former Liverpool man. Despite his brilliance and impressive record this season, there has been talks of Sterling potentially leaving City ever since they signed Jack Grealish.

And according to Cascarino, Sterling has been that good in the last year that he considers him to be above Mo Salah in the player of the year ranks.

“I think certainly if you take the Euros and beyond, Raheem, his game has just improved. He is a far more complete player. I felt sorry for the lad who played against him this weekend,” Cascarino said on Talksport.

“I can’t think of one (a player who’s been playing better this year) and I include Mo Salah in that. Salah was fantastic at the start of the season and he’s not played as well in the last month or two. If I’m taking it from the start of this season and into the Euros, I can’t think of a player who’s played better than Raheem Sterling.”

14 goals in all competitions at club level, an impressive Euros, and still playing a key role in a City side laden with talent, there is little doubting that Sterling is pure class.

Of course, it’s subjective as to who is better out of the two in Salah and Sterling. But Cascarino does make a good point here about the consistency of the City star. Sterling, on his day, is as good as anyone when he gets the ball in those channels in the final third.

If Arsenal did somehow sign Sterling this summer, then it would be a huge coup. The thought of both he and Bukayo Saka in wide areas would definitely excite the Gunners faithful.
