Pundit Cascarino urges Maddison to join Arsenal after impressive weekend display

James Maddison scored yet another trademark free-kick as Leicester beat Huddersfield 4-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It was a surprisingly end to end game, but Leicester’s superior attacking quality told and the England under 21 international got on the scoresheet again with a wicked set-piece that gave Ben Hamer no chance.

In the aftermath of that game, former Chelsea striker turned pundit James Maddison urged Maddison – who only joined Leicester last summer for a fee the BBC reported was £20m – to move again.

According to the Game, page 5, 08/04, Cascarino feels that Maddison would be a perfect fit for Arsenal, who are still looking to improve under Unai Emery.

Cascarino said: “I look at Maddison and I think – Arsenal is your team. Maddison should be the man to replace Aaron Ramsey. Arsenal desperately need someone who plays like the Leicester man.

“Maddison’s work-rate is good and getting better. There is no question about whether he is technical enough for the top flight.”

Maddison and Ramsey are different players – if anything, the Englishman would be a replacement for Mesut Ozil in the number 10 position.

But he is performing well and perhaps causing a few clubs who didn’t take the punt on him when he was in the Championship to regret it.

Is he a top four player? He has the ability, but Arsenal need to bolster their defensive and wide options first, as a matter of urgency.
