Tony Cascarino has heaped praise on Moussa Sissoko for his superb renaissance this season.
The French midfielder has emerged as one of Spurs’ most consistent performers in 2018/19, and has finally proven value for money following his £30 million move from Newcastle in 2016 (BBC Sport).
An injury to Mousa Dembele before leaving the club in January allowed Sissoko to come in and play more regularly.
Eric Dier was also sidelined, meaning Sissoko was able to strike up a fine partnership with Harry Winks.
Cascarino was tasked with choosing his Team of the Year on talkSPORT, but could only choose one player per team.
Without hesitating, the former Chelsea man plumped for Sissoko over the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Christian Eriksen, and said (quoted by talkSPORT): “With Sissoko, eyebrows were raised when Tottenhamn paid £30m for him, but he’s just got better and better for Spurs this season.
“He and Wijnaldum were in the Newcastle team that got relegated – it was great business to sign them from Tottenham and Liverpool.”
Sissoko is genuinely one of Tottenham’s better players now, which is a far cry away from where he was this time last year.
The Euro 2016 runner-up has cushioned the blow of losing Dembele and has provided some drive and physicality in midfield.
Cascarino clearly rates the contributions of the 29-year-old very highly to vote him into his team ahead of Son, who has also starred for Tottenham this year.
That said, many will actually agree that he has been Tottenham’s best player or at least think he is the most improved.
