Pundit backs Tottenham to qualify for the Champions League despite Brighton loss
Darren Bent has backed Tottenham Hotspur to qualify for next season’s Champions League despite losing against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Antonio Conte’s side came into yesterday’s lunchtime clash against Graham Potter’s Seagulls off the back of four straight wins.
But Potter’s men made it back-to-back wins against the North London sides with a 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to a late goal from Leandro Trossard.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal failed to capitalise on their fierce rivals’ hiccup as they lost 1-0 at Southampton to make it three consecutive Premier League losses.
Manchester United needed a Cristiano Ronaldo to see off a spirited Norwich City 3-2 at Old Trafford.
Yesterday’s results meant that Spurs remain fourth with six Premier League games remaining. The former Inter Milan manager’s side are three points ahead of both United and the Gunners, but Arteta’s men still have a game in-hand.
However, speaking on Premier League Productions, former Spurs striker Bent still fancies Conte’s team to finish fourth.
Bent said: “With Antonio Conte they have been on a great run, Tottenham, and I expect them to do that again.
“Because what is it, one loss in the last five? So they can go on a run and they’re already in fourth spot.
“It’s in their hands at the end of the day. If they can win their games, then I think with the consistency that’s going on around them, with Man United being inconsistent and Arsenal not scoring not scoring any goals, I think it’s still in Spurs’ hands.”
Although Spurs still have to face Liverpool and Arsenal, there fixture list looks handier compared to Arsenal and Manchester United’s.
As well as the North London derby, the Gunners still have to play Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham.
Whereas United still have to play Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
