The Athletic claim Newcastle United’s new owners have reportedly discussed the possibility of bringing PSG midfielder Idrissa Gueye back to the Premier League. Steve Bruce was keen on signing him last summer.
Gueye, 32, remains a crucial part of PSG’s side this season – playing 20 times under Mauricio Pochettino. But in those 20 games, he has only clocked up 90 minutes on eight occasions, starting 17 and coming off nine times.
A loan move for Gueye could become a possibility in January, even if Gini Wijnaldum follows Gueye out of the exit door. The 84-time Senegal star will, of course, be with his country at the African Cup of Nations in January.
But the report claims that his name has ‘featured in conversation’ at Newcastle board level. The Toon need one, or even two midfielders. It is also said that Bruce wanted the £29million (Guardian) midfielder in the summer.

Gueye to Newcastle: Would PSG star be tempted by Tyneside move?
PSG have options in midfield. Leandro Paredes, Danilo Pereira, Marco Verratti, Wijnaldum, Gueye and more. The competition has convinced Rafinha to join La Liga side Real Sociedad, with a move confirmed this week.
But while Gueye is playing regularly alongside the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi – why would he consider a relegation battle in the Premier League? In the summer, perhaps, but in January – it seems unlikely.
