Newcastle United continue to plot their way through the dying embers of the transfer window and one big name, Ousmane Dembele, seems to keep getting mentioned among differing reports.
Yesterday reports suggested Newcastle were going to make their move for Dembele. The Frenchman has effectively been told that he can leave Barcelona after failing to come to terms on a new deal with the club. He is thought to be on huge money, and is demanding similar or more to re-sign or move elsewhere.

Of course, one club who would have no problem in paying Dembele’s salary are Newcastle. Now run by PIF, the Mags are the richest of the richest when it comes to European football. However, another club, PSG are not too far away either when it comes to hefty bank accounts.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, PSG have been trying to sign Dembele from Barca today. But in what is good news for Newcastle, it seems no agreement has been struck between the parties.
Dembele, a World Cup winner with France, has had a torrid time in Barcelona since moving for a huge fee from Borussia Dortmund. Injuries, lack of form, and Barca’s own plight has meant Dembele has looked a shadow of the player he was in Germany.
TBR’s View: Newcastle Could Shock Everyone Here
Bruno Guimaraes arriving is a big enough coup. But if PIF can somehow land a player with a big reputation and name like Dembele, it would send shockwaves through the footballing world.
Dembele is a quality player. Everyone knows he has bags of ability and potential. But the sums he has been asking for, plus question marks over fitness and attitude, mean anyone signing him is taking a risk.
Newcastle can afford to take the risk – financially anyway – and Dembele would be a huge signing for them tomorrow.
