PSG are now ‘monitoring developments’ when it comes to Newcastle’s £40m midfielder

European heavyweights PSG are keeping a very close eye on Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes during the January window.

Newcastle are trying to bring in new players this month but are stuck within the rules of FFP, putting their plans in a bit of a mess despite their rich owners.

Reports recently have suggested the Magpies could sell a top star to fund new signings. The likes of Alex Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman have all been tipped as players who could be sacrificed.

And now, according to The Daily Mail, PSG are keeping a close watch on Bruno Guimaraes’ situation.

PSG monitoring Bruno Guimaraes ahead of potential bid

According the Mail’s transfer confidential newsletter, the French giants are monitoring developments when it comes to the Brazilian midfielder.

Guimaraes has become a fan favourite since moving to the Magpies for £40m back in 2022. Since then, he’s developed a reputation as one of the league’s premier central midfielders.

However, with Newcastle struggling to balance the books despite PIF’s riches, Guimaraes could now be sold.

It’s well known that Guimaraes has a £100m release clause in his contract and Liverpool are also said to be interested in the midfielder.

Quite whether a club is willing to fork out for Guimaraes in January or if Newcastle would even contemplate such a sale, remains to be seen.

Newcastle need to be careful

This sort of rumour will be unsettling for Newcastle fans.

The idea of PIF coming in was to try and make sure Newcastle became the club where big players signed and then stayed. The idea they’d now have to lose one of their best players to simply balance the books is a bit of a worry.

If Bruno was to be sold to PSG, even for £100m, then Newcastle fans would be wondering what is going on.

For Eddie Howe, it would be a bitter blow, while for the team in general, it would weaken them.

Newcastle need to keep Guimaraes and somehow find other players who can be sold to help their money issues.
