Arsenal continued their fine run of form this weekend as they hammered Newcastle United to keep up the pressure at the summit.
With Sheffield United next weekend, there is a real chance for Arsenal to keep on winning by big margins as well.
Mikel Arteta’s side have smashed in the goals in recent weeks and that’s put to bed any sort of notion that they missed out by not landing a striker in the January window.
And speaking on TalkSPORT this morning, Ally McCoist has admitted that the Gunners are proving him wrong at the moment, albeit he feels they still need a striker long-term.

Ally McCoist says Arsenal need a striker
Discussing Arsenal’s excellent form and lack of striker, McCoist believes that while Arsenal are proving him wrong now, they will need a new forward eventually.
“They’ve done exceptionally well. I mean, you cannot argue with the stats, particularly since the turn of the year. But, I look at the game funnily enough in Porto and it’s easy to pick that one out, that was the game where it looked like they needed an out and out centre-forward, they didn’t have a shot at goal,” McCoist said.
“But, they’re proving me wrong at this moment in time because they’re handling the situation of no out and out centre-forward, Gabriel Jesus was on the bench obviously, they’re handling the situation extremely well, but do they need one, yes.”
Arsenal still need a striker
They might be flying right now and doing well but longer-term, this Arsenal side needs to bring in a number nine.
Eddie Nketiah is not the man really and Gabriel Jesus has shown consistently that he can’t be relied upon both in terms of fitness and goals.
The next window is going to be big Arsenal regardless of if they win the league or not. All the best teams have a top striker, it’s that simple.
Right now, Arsenal don’t have it and over time, it will cost them. The summer, then, needs to be focussed on them landing that ideal forward player.
