After promising start, Aston Villa must regret Graham Burke decision

Aston Villa fans are not exactly happy with the performance of the team this season, with many even calling for the departure of manager Steve Bruce. Plenty of players at Villa have simply not been performing well enough in recent weeks. Meanwhile, a player Aston Villa let go is thriving back in the Championship.

Graham Burke has been in fine form since making a move to Preston North End in the summer. The Irish international headed to Deepdale in the summer after excellent form with Shamrock Rovers in his home country.

Burke has certainly hit the ground running, with two goals and an assist from his first four games. It certainly looks like Burke is a talent worthy of Championship football.

Aston Villa, however, did not stick by the player. Signed by Belvedere in 2010 he starred for the Aston Villa youth teams. In 2013 he was the top-scorer for Villa in the NextGen Series and was handed a new contract at Bodymoor Heath.

In 2015 he was off, joining Notts County after a successful loan spell. Aston Villa were in the Premier League at the time and obviously felt Burke was not good enough at that level.

Now he is a full Republic of Ireland international who appears to be finding his feet in the second-tier. Aston Villa might have wanted to stand by the Irishman’s talent.
