It was all going so well for Tottenham at the start of this season.
The north London club went unbeaten for their first 10 games, but then that fateful game against Chelsea changed everything.
Tottenham have now failed to win any of their last five, and the poor performances on the pitch can most definitely be attributed to the club’s ongoing injury crisis.
Indeed, Tottenham are missing many key players right now, including Micky Van de Ven and James Maddison.
Speaking on ESPN, Steve Nicol has been discussing Tottenham’s injury situation and why it’s so dire, and he says that Spurs have arguably lost their two best players in Van de Ven and Maddison, labelling Van de Ven as the best centre-back in the country before his injury.

Van de Ven was the best defender in the league
Nicol shared his verdict on the 22-year-old.
“Listen I think Spurs were always going to struggle with the amount of injuries and the changes they’ve had to make. They’ve lost their best players, Van de Ven at the back up until he was injured was probably the best centre-back in the Premier League this season so far and James Maddison who, again, before he was injured was arguably one of the best midfielders in the league this season,” Nicol said.
Brilliant
It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen Van de Ven play, but we mustn’t forget just how good he was before his injury.
His pace allowed Tottenham to play this high line with ease, and there’s a reason Spurs never lost a game where Van de Ven played from start to finish without injury.
Van de Ven will be out for a little while longer, and we’re hoping that he’ll be able to return triumphantly without having his pace affected by his recent hamstring issue.
