‘Probably looking at’…Arsenal could end up signing £100m striker for half-price this summer

Arsenal ended up holding their nerve in the January window when it came to signing a new striker.

Despite noise from the outside, mainly from fans and a select few pundits, the Gunners resisted the temptation to bring in a new number nine.

Of course, since then, Mikel Arteta has been vindicated in his decision to hang fire. The Gunners sit top of the table heading into tomorrow’s clash with Manchester City.

And while that game could decide the Premier League title this season, planning has already begun at The Emirates in terms of the summer window.

Indeed, a new striker could well be targeted still.

The strikers Arsenal are reportedly looking at signing

Arsenal’s rise under Arteta has seen players be more than open to joining them.

We saw in the summer as both Kai Havertz and Declan Rice opted for Arsenal, despite interest from elsewhere.

As for a new striker, a number of names are already being linked with a move.

Benjamin Sesko is a name to keep an eye on, while Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres has been outstanding all season and continues to catch the eye.

Of course, we mustn’t forget about Brentford and England star, Ivan Toney. The big striker has been heavily linked with a move to The Emirates, albeit for close to £100m.

However, speaking to GiveMeSport, Sky Sports pundit Dharmesh Sheth has suggested that in the end, that £100m figure might well drop down.

Sky Sports pundit shares Ivan Toney price-tag update

Speaking to GMS, Sky Sports’ Sheth spoke on the situation involving Toney ahead of the summer.

And Sheth believes that in the end, Toney could go for much cheaper than Brentford want.

“Do I expect him to go for £100m? Brentford will want £100m for him, but other clubs will be very, very aware that he’s unlikely to sign a new contract. He’s entered the final 12 months and they will probably use that to bring the price down. So £100m, probably not. You’re probably looking at around the £50m/£60m mark potentially.

“Ivan Toney will probably be a good deal for all parties then in the end because Brentford will get good money that they can replace Ivan Toney with and they’ve already started doing that haven’t they? They’ve already looked at other players and already signed players on pre-contracts ahead of the summer, so they’re already looking at life after Ivan Toney,” Sheth said.

Quite who Toney will end up signing for, remains to be seen. Manchester United are known admirers of the striker, while Tottenham have registered an interest as well.
