Tottenham could seal their first signing in a year in the form of Valencia starlet Carlos Soler in a £30 million deal which may not be completed until the summer, reports claim.
That’s according to ESPN, though in 2017 The Independent claimed that Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United were monitoring the dynamic midfielder as he really began to make an impact at Mestalla.
It is clear to see why Mourinho would have been interested in the tough tackling and versatile 22-year-old. His all round game has seen him deployed as a holding midfielder, an attacking midfielder and even out wide on the right under Marcelino.

Such flexibility is highly valued in north London, particularly by Mauricio Pochettino. The likes of Eric Dier have benefitted and seen their value and appreciation soar thanks to their versatility and Soler could be the next one to benefit.
£30 million may not be cheap given the kind of bargain that Daniel Levy often looks out for, but given the potential and experience that Soler has even as a young player is impressive and surely justifies such an investment.
There was clearly a reason behind Mourinho’s interest in 2017 and, though a move never came to fruition, Tottenham could be the ones to benefit from United’s failure to act.
