Hugo Lloris has left Tottenham.
After more than a decade of good service at Spurs, the French goalkeeper has finally departed the north London club in order to join LAFC.
A move to MLS is usually one last payday for these veteran players as they look to wind their career down, but apparently Lloris isn’t actually going to earn that much in the US now.
Indeed, speaking on The Debrief, Tom Bogert has been discussing Lloris’ move to Los Angeles, and he says that people across MLS have been stunned by the fact Lloris has come over to the league so cheaply.

Lloris’ salary has stunned teams in MLS
Bogert shared what he’s heard about Lloris.
“Yeah, that one was very surprising, it’s more aligned with the Chiellini and Gareth Bale deals. What’s interesting is that he’s only making around $350,000 next year, that would make him the 28th highest paid goalkeeper in MLS, which is pretty mental. People have reached out to me from other clubs like ‘what the hell, that’s not a deal we can get.’ Money isn’t a factor here for Hugo Lloris, it’s crazy that LAFC are signing Lloris and he’s only going to be half as expensive as their starting goalie, and I’ve had texts from people across the league saying how the hell is this so cheap,” Bogert said.
So cheap
$350,000-a-year may sound like a lot of money to the average Joe, but for a professional football of Lloris’ stature, that really isn’t much.
Extrapolated over a year and taking exchange rates into account, that’s about £5,000-a-week, and while most people would love a wage like that, as a World Cup winning goalkeeper, your earning capacity is usually a lot higher.
Of course, Lloris has earned his money at Tottenham, and the fact that he’s now able to go and play in LA for a few years and enjoy the lifestyle that comes along with that is seemingly more important to Lloris at this point of his career.
