Sadio Mané: Although available for selection after having his red card from last week overturned, Sadio Mané only made the bench against Liverpool. However, after coming on at the start of the second half, he demonstrated just why his signature is in such high demand, snatching a brace to steal all three points for Koeman’s Saints. Mané proved to make such a difference to the game, as the Saints’ attacking impetus was largely blunted in the first 45 minutes but after the pacey wide-man’s introduction, Liverpool spent much of the game on the back foot. He produced a couple of smart finishes to send Southampton on their way and he could even have had a hat-trick after his penalty early in the second half was saved fairly comfortably by Simon Mignolet. Mané was clearly the spark behind the Saints’ comeback, creating two chances, beating his man on three occasions, and getting off three shots on target.

Jonathan Walters: Stoke City’s stalwart came into the team after a few weeks on the side-lines and looked exceptionally determined to make an impression. Jon Walters’ endeavour and hard graft predominantly carried out on the right flank was the greatest threat that Watford faced all afternoon, never giving the defenders a moment’s peace and coming out on top in six aerial duels, as is typical with his displays. Walters was on hand to put the visitors in front on 18 minutes after Phil Bardsley’s cross from the right flank, and was also an asset for The Potters in his own box. The Irishman assisted the defensive effort from Watford set pieces and making four clearances from inside the area.

Harry Kane: Continuing his scintillating recent form in front of goal for Spurs as they do their utmost to chase down Premier League leaders Leicester City, Harry Kane was the key man in securing a surprisingly easy three points against a Bournemouth side who are usually a real test for anyone on the road. Kane opened his account for the day after a mere 43 seconds, finishing off Kyle Walker’s cross, and was able to nag his second just after the quarter-hour mark, picking up yet another goal as a result of some fine work by fellow English prodigy Dele Alli. Harry Kane now leads the Premier League’s top scorer charts with 21 strikes, all the more impressive when you consider how long it took him to get going in this campaign. Nevertheless, he is on top of his game at exactly the right time – the title run-in for Spurs and England’s Euro 2016 campaign loom just around the corner.
