Troy Deeney: Deeney’s brace of goals drew an end to a six-game drought that Watford’s captain has endured and with Ighalo not finding the back of the net against Pardew’s men, it was very timely. His first came in a highly composed manner from the penalty spot, calmly stroking the ball into the net once the Palace goalkeeper had committed himself. Deeney’s second strike came about because he had found some space beyond the back post and was able to kill the ball dead with a neat piece of control on the thigh. Making no mistake with the finish, the striker secured an away victory for his side. In a typically combative display, the Watford skipper could be seen popping up all over the park and exerting a significant physical influence wherever he went, winning eight aerial duels and creating a couple of opportunities for others. He helped out in his own penalty area too, clearing the danger twice and blocking two goal-bound efforts as well.

Diego Costa: The latest addition to Chelsea’s masked contingent enjoyed a fantastic day’s work at home to Newcastle United. It was clear that Diego Costa smelt blood from early on, sensing the advantage of being able to isolate either Steven Taylor or Fabricio Coloccini. Latching onto Willian’s perfectly weighted pass, Diego Costa produced a sharp finish to open the scoring very early on. Chelsea were dominant and lethal in equal measure for the first few minutes of the match and Costa laid the ball on a plate for Willian to notch up the third for The Blues, returning the favour provided by the Brazilian earlier on. A typical run into the channel by Diego Costa took Fabricio Coloccini out of the game and; very unselfishly, he fed Chelsea’s player of the season for an easy finish. As against Manchester United last weekend, Diego Costa was very much more focused within the width of the 18-yard-box, and he is much more effective as a result. Guus Hiddink gladly took the opportunity to give Costa some rest in the second half as he makes preparations to face PSG in midweek.
