Right-Forward: Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)

You simply have to wonder why such a performance has lacked from the England international during the season so far. The man who helped fire the Foxes to the title last season scored two sumptuous goals against an out-of-sorts Liverpool, netting his first from a long-range Marc Albrighton ball and smashing the ball beyond Simon Mignolet, before a fine header from Christian Fuchs’ teasing cross provided the hosts’ third, before Philippe Coutinho netted a late consolation. By then however, the Foxes were out of sight, and if they can continue this anomaly of a performance, then their Premier League status should be safe for yet another season.

Centre-Forward: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)

Harry Kane was unplayable at times against Stoke, and his first-half hat-trick not only saw him go beyond 100 goals for his boyhood club, but also saw him net the most hat-tricks in the club’s history. This latest was his fourth, and saw him surpass former Spurs heroes like Jermain Defoe and Republic of Ireland favourite Robbie Keane.

It was just the tonic Spurs needed after an ignominious Europa League exit to Gent, in which Kane scored in the wrong net, but everything he touched seemed to go in against an abject Stoke side, and if such performances follow, he will surely be in line to bring yet another Golden Boot to White Hart Lane.

Left-Forward: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur)

Following his red-card in Europe which cost Spurs dearly as they exited the Europa League to Gent, Alli played like a man possessed against Stoke as he set to make amends for his dismissal days earlier. He did so in superb fashion, capping off his wonderful individual showing with a goal, sliding in to tap home a Harry Kane cross for Tottenham’s fourth goal before half-time as they dismantles a sorry Stoke side.

Alli’s desire and work-rate cut the figure of a man desperate to right a wrong for the cause, and were it not for Kane’s heroics, he’d surely have been in line for a man-of-the-match award once more.
