Right-Centre-Midfield: N’Golo Kanté (Chelsea)

Kanté’s five tackles in Chelsea’s win over Swansea was a match-high stat for any player across all Premier League games over the weekend, and his consistency throughout the season for Antonio Conte’s Blues epitomises just how vital he was for Leicester last season.

For years since Mourinho’s first-spell, Chelsea have never reaped the rewards of having a midfielder in the mould of Claude Makelele. It appears that in the form of this French international, they have acquired one once again.

Centre-Midfield: Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea)

Spaniard Cesc Fabregas was the mastermind behind Chelsea’s triumph over a resurgent Swansea. Given the nod over Nemanja Matic, Fabregas simply did what he does best, picking apart the visitors with incisive passing and capping off his performance with a fine goal.

Fabregas may not offer the power and presence of Nemanja Matic in midfield, but all good teams need a maestro, and it was Fabregas’ stellar performance that helped the Blues to another three points in a potentially tricky game, and saw the hosts go 10 points clear at the Premier League summit.

Left-Centre-Midfield: Idrissa Gueye (Everton)

Former Aston Villa man Idrissa Gueye couldn’t do enough to keep his former club in the top-flight, but the Toffees are reaping the rewards of his development on Merseyside. Besides notching a goal from Coleman’s cross against Sunderland, Gueye contributed five tackles and four interceptions against the potentially tricky Black Cats, and tirelessly covered ground throughout to see the hosts home to three points at Goodison.

Manager Ronald Koeman’s system requires a hard-working midfielder, and Gueye provides such a work-rate in abundance, in a similar vain to N’Golo Kanté for Chelsea. His goal, incidentally his first for the club, was a classy finish, high into the roof of the net to bring the Toffees faithful to their feet.
