It was a quieter week in the Premier League, with the EFL Cup Final keeping finalists Manchester United and Southampton, as well as Manchester City and Arsenal out of action. Of the eight games that went ahead from Saturday through to Monday, another win for Chelsea over Swansea saw their march toward the title continue, whilst Tottenham took full advantage of Manchester City being out of action with a 4-0 win over Stoke to go second.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 victory at home to Middlesbrough, whilst fellow strugglers Sunderland suffered defeat at Everton. Marco Silva’s resurgent Hull City shared the spoils with Burnley for a second time this season with a 1-1 draw at the KCOM Stadium, whilst the honours were also shared at Vicarage Road between Watford and West Ham. West Bromwich Albion were winners at the Hawthorns, and remain eighth following their 2-1 triumph over Bournemouth.
Monday Night’s featured game saw Leicester kick-off the post-Claudio Ranieri era at home to Liverpool, and they produced a performance reminiscent of last season that has so often lacked this campaign, with an emphatic 3-1 win over Jurgen Klopp’s men.
