Right-Forward: Sadio Mané (Liverpool)

How Liverpool have missed this man during the Africa Cup of Nations. The Senegalese was back again with a bang after netting a brace against Spurs, which all but won the game in the opening half an hour. The wider statistics also reveal his importance to Jurgen Klopp’s side, with the reds having won 16 of the 24 games in which he has featured, whilst only winning three of the ten games he has missed throughout the campaign.

Klopp couldn’t get his man back quick enough, and they will need him to continue in such form if Liverpool are to revive their faltering title ambitions. A win against a strong Spurs outfit however, isn’t a bad way to start going about it, but catching Chelsea may be a bridge too far.

Centre-Forward: Manolo Gabbiadini (Southampton)

What an impact this man has made at St. Mary’s. Not only has he netted in his first two Saints appearances, the first to do so since Henri Camara back in 2005, but he has hit three spectacular goals in two showings for his new club since signing from Napoli. How he didn’t get a game at Stadio San Paolo is anybody’s guess, but the Neapolitans’ loss is certainly looking like Southampton’s gain after the Italian showed a ruthless and clinical instinct to help dispose of a Sunderland side that threatened to continue their dismal run after their own big win last week.

There have been several great Italian strikers to go down in football folklore, and if Gabbiadini can continue with this purple patch, he may well be the next.

Left-Forward: Alexis Sánchez (Arsenal)

All the paper speculation about a summer move away aside, Alexis Sánchez is one of the few figures keeping Arsenal’s season alive at present, and his latest double at home to a resurgent Hull side means he has now netted seven goals in his last four Premier League games.

Arsenal’s annual stutter appears to have come and gone, and it has subsequently left the Gunners with a mountain to climb if they are to harbour any fading hopes of the Premier League title. The squad and manager have come under swathes of criticism, but Sánchez appears to be one of the few focusing on getting Arsenal up the table and aiming for higher than just a European spot.

The form of Sánchez will be encouraging ahead of the club’s break from league action with their Champions League and FA Cup assignments, but it will take more players at the Emirates raising their game to his level if they are to collectively prevent another season going by without silverware. Much promise and no product has regrettably become something of a theme for Arsenal, but this man may be key not only to lifting the North Londoners to success, but keeping under-fire Arsene Wenger from receiving his P45.
