Centre-Forward: Andy Carroll (West Ham United)

In the face of the Dimitri Payet saga, West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has needed the rest of his players to step-up to the plate, and none have done so more than Andy Carroll. His well-taken brace at Middlesbrough, his first away from home in the Premier League, was an all-too-welcome reminder of what the Hammers have been missing during his injury-enforced absence. He was a thorn in the side of Middlesbrough throughout, and they struggled to cope with his height, presence and clinical finishing. One might even suspect that if he can continue in this rich vein of form, a return to the international fold may not be far away.

Centre-Forward: Fernando Llorente (Swansea City)

This result was a bolt from the blue. Or in this case, the white, and it was Fernando Llorente’s power and presence in the Liverpool penalty area that proved decisive, showing an opportunists’ instinct to net his first before scoring a bullet header from Tom Carroll’s sumptuous cross from the left.

Llorente has often come up with the goods in games where Swansea have managed to win, and on this showing it may be his goals that will save them if Paul Clement is to succeed in retaining their Premier League status.
